US theologian in Norfolk to talk on spirituality
World-renowned American priest and theologian, Matthew Fox, is set to visit Norfolk to run a two-day workshop weekend entitled A Spirituality for the 21st Century.
Formerly a member of the Dominican order within the Roman Catholic Church, Matthew Fox is now a member of the Episcopal Church and he founded the Institute of Culture and Creation Spirituality
A world-renowned speaker on matters of spirituality and consciousness, Matthew draws inspiration from Thomas Aquinas, Saint Francis of Assisi and Julian of Norwich.
The Julian of Norwich connection is one of the main reasons why Matthew is visiting Norfolk at the end of March.
Rev Nicholas Vesey, vicar of St Luke’s in Norwich and founder of the Norwich Christian Meditation Centre, said: “Matthew is a creative thinker and his books The Coming of the Cosmic Christ and Original Blessing, are fantastic expositions of radical, theological, mystical viewpoints. He is interested in the new reformation of the church and is always worth listening to and will get us thinking. I plan to be there.”
The workshop takes place at Mangreen Hall just south of Norwich and organiser, Naomi Duffield, said: “This is Matthew’s first ever visit to Norwich, so this two-day event provides a rare opportunity to learn from one of the world’s pioneers of spirituality and consciousness. We will share in practices that awaken spirit in us, explore wisdom found in the spiritual traditions of the world and learn from mystics past and present.
“In the modern age we have developed knowledge, but at the expense of wisdom. The result has been ecological disaster and destitution, with a loss of meaning and shared values in our lives. We need our spirituality to bring wisdom back to us and to refresh our yearning hearts. Matthew Fox will explore how we can awaken to our divine origins so as to become
transformative agents of healing and wholeness in the 21st Century.”
The workshop takes place on Saturday March 31 and Sunday April 1, from 10am to 4pm both days.
