Churches to join Norwich Malawi link
 Norwich churches have been asked to develop a partnership with Dedza in Malawi as an extension of an existing link between the African country and Norwich City Council.
The City Council has developed a partnership with Dedza, a district of Malawi, one of the poorest countries in Africa and currently suffering a drought which threatens widespread starvation.
The partnership is intended to operate through many sections of community life; health, education, policing, tourism, business, information technology are examples of ways in which links can be made between the peoples of Norwich and Dedza. A first consignment of computers has already been despatched and another is due to go in late January.
More recently Norwich churches have been asked to develop a partnership, and Transforming Norwich has been given the task of making the connections.
The secretary of Transforming Norwich, Dr John Dubbey, who has lived in Malawi for four years, has been asked to lead this connection and is initially aiming to make links between churches in Norwich with denominational counterparts in Dedza.
“A relationshipween churches is potentially the most valuable as most Malawians are Christians, much more regular in church-going than in England and with much to teach us through their faith,” said John.
“After the initial contact, the individual church would then work out the mode of interaction and at the same time Transforming Norwich would work out ways in which we can work together to develop the partnership and how we can meet the very serious needs of our brothers and sisters in Dedza.”
