History of Norwich churches

NorwichSkylineThe city of Norwich boasts an ecclesiastical heritage unrivalled in England.

There are two cathedrals: the Anglican cathedral dating from Norman times, famous for its spire and fine choral traditions; and the Roman Catholic cathedral, one of the latest and finest examples of Victorian gothic architicture.

Some 31 splendid medieval parish churches survive, nine of which are used for regular worship.

Norwich also has an important protestant heritage inflcuned by the refugees who fled to the city to escape persecution. The Free Chruches are all actively represented and new churches continue to grow up in the city centre.
