Norfolk social enterprise appeals for volunteers
Christian charity STEP (standing together empowering people) is celebrating the success of its first social enterprise scheme and is looking for volunteers to help it increase the impact of its work across Norfolk and Suffolk.
was founded eight years ago by a group of women who wanted to make a difference to vulnerable women trying to escape a life of abuse, addiction or exploitation. In June, the charity opened Sharel@STEP
in Northgate, Beccles,
which incorporates a food bank, tearoom and drop-in centre and also offers good quality second-hand furniture at affordable prices.
, Director of programmes for STEP, said: “Everyone has been delighted with how well things have gone in Beccles since we opened. We have received so much support from our partner agencies, local churches and most of all, from the local community. It really is something to celebrate. It has been so rewarding to see how the community has been so welcoming and supportive to what has been a new venture in the town.”
The enterprise has been so successful it has now appointed Andrea Downes as its first business support co-ordinator. “I started here as a volunteer and am delighted to be given the responsibility of this role,” she said. “The volunteers are so important to us and we would like to thank them very much for all their efforts.”
Because of its success the charity is now looking for volunteers to help with both Step Norwich
and Sharel Beccles. It is also specifically looking for an experienced treasurer or book-keeper.
