Earl of Wessex set to visit Diocese of Norwich

The key role of the Diocese of Norwich in education provision will be highlighted by the visit of HRH The Earl of Wessex to Norfolk on November 13.

At the invitation of the Lord Bishop of Norwich, the Rt Revd Graham James, the Earl will make visits to three venues, which in different ways will show the good work which is happening across the field of Education in the Diocese with young people.
 
The first destination is the Horstead Centre – an outdoor pursuits centre in North Norfolk offering activity days and residentials for schools and youth groups.  Here the Earl will learn about the history, ethos and aims of the centre, have a tour of the venue, meet the staff, and see activities taking place (such as climbing wall, zipwire, bushcraft and archery) with children staying at the centre.
 
The Earl will then visit Little Plumstead Church of England VA Primary School.  Here he will meet with staff and governors of the school.  He will also meet with Diocese of Norwich’s Director of Education, Andy Mash, to discuss education within the Diocese and the work done serving and supporting over 110 schools and academies.
 
The Earl will be given a tour of the school – including their outside prayer space and garden project.  Along with Bishop Graham, the Earl will also take part in a special assembly where each class will place something in a time capsule – the Earl and Bishop Graham will also place something special in the capsule.
 
The final venue is Norwich Cathedral, the largest building in East Anglia, with over 900 years of history and the largest cathedral close and monastic cloister in England. 
 
The Earl will be greeted by the Dean of Norwich, the Very Revd Dr Jane Hedges, and tour the Cathedral including a moment to pause at the plaque which marks the visit of Her Majesty The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh in 2010.  The Earl will also have the opportunity to hear the choir performing; visit the library;  meet with the Cathedral's Head of Schools & Family Learning, Janet Marshall, and see  children visiting the Cathedral on their education programme.
