Double Christian cup final success for Brooke

It was double success for Brooke Adventurers in the second Norfolk Christian Youth league cup finals weekend, on Saturday May 14, winning both the U12 and the U16 finals.

In the U12s final, league-runners-up Brooke were taking on league champions and Fairplay Trophy winners Stoke United.

The game was very evenly contested with a lot of ball skills on show, the Stoke keeper in particular making one great save to keep it 0-0 at half time.

Stoke brought on fresh players for the second half, but it was Brooke who took the lead through league top goal-scorer Charlie Mayhew with a calm finish. Charlie doubled Brooke’s lead with a second goal before Noah Muntendam made it 3-0, just before the final whistle, for a deserved win.

In the U16 final it was also league winners Brooke Adventurers versus runners-up, this time ENYP. A fiercely competitive game was 0-0 at half time. And it stayed that way until ten minutes from full-time when captain Harry Browne smashed one into the top of the goal to put Brooke ahead.

So to extra time and in the first period Harry scored a second for himself and Brooke in the top corner, followed quickly by Owen Page with a well-placed shot.

ENYP kept fighting, but Owen scored his second with a wonderful free-kick from 20 yards right into the top corner to see the game out 4-1 and secure a league and cup double for Brooke.

League chairman, Mike Culwick, said: “It was another great day for the league. The U12 final was played in a spirit which reflects well on the Christian ethos of our league with the two best teams in their league on show and setting a great example.

“The U16s final was also well-fought between the two top teams in their league and the match was very close until extra time when Brooke forged ahead with three goals. So well done to all the teams who made the finals.”

Both games were played at the Sale Road recreation ground at Heartsease in Norwich.
