Queen’s birthday events hosted by Norfolk churches 

From picnics in Cathedral grounds to indoor street parties and flower festivals, Norfolk churches are ensuring that Her Majesty The Queen's 90th birthday is royally celebrated across the county.  Here is a look at how churches are planning to celebrate this weekend. 

This weekend churches across Norfolk are celebrating the Queen’s Official 90th birthday with community events ranging from garden parties to picnics to a festival of art.  Here is a round up of what churches across the county are doing in celebration.


Flower Festival at All Saints, Upper Sheringham

The Flower Festival is part of the celebrations for the Queen's 90th birthday across the Weybourne Group of Parishes.  The Festival will be open daily from 10am – 5pm on Friday, June 10 to Sunday, June 12 celebrating the theme ‘Peace & Reconciliation 'And the Angels Sang...’'  On Saturday June 11, 12.30-2pm there will be a barbeque in Upper Sheringham Village Hall.  On Sunday 12, 5pm there will be a ‘Festival Songs of Praise’.

Festival of Art at St Nicholas, Holt

The Primary Schools of Blakeney, Hindringham, Kelling and Walsingham form the Pilgrim Federation of Church Schools.  They have worked together to produce this Festival of Art entitled 'Peace' in celebration of the Queen's 90th Birthday, hosted by St Nicholas Church, Holt.  The Festival is open on Friday June  10 - Sunday June 12, 10am - 5pm

Picnic Party at Norwich Cathedral

On Sunday, June 12 Bishop Graham James will preach at Norwich Cathedral’s Festal Evensong service at 3.30pm, which will be followed by a picnic party at 4.30pm on the Upper Close Green (if wet, the picnic will be in the Cloisters!).  Everyone is welcome.

Guests can bring their own picnics (plus chairs and rugs!) or alternatively enjoy a range of food on offer including cream teas, cake and ice creams! There will also be a selection of sideshows and entertainment, helping to make the afternoon a wonderful celebration of this joyful occasion.

Festival of Flowers and Photographs at All Saints Church, Poringland
 

To celebrate the long life of Her Majesty the Queen All Saints Church will welcome visitors for a festival of special flower displays and an exhibition of photographs put on by members of the Poringland Archive Group featuring events and pictures of life in and around the village over the last 90 years.  The Festival will be open on Friday, June 10 - Saturday, June 11, 10am - 4pm with refreshments available throughout the day.  There is free entry but donations will be gratefully received

Flower Festival at All Saints, Filby

The Filby Flower Festival opens with a preview evening on Friday, June 10 at 7pm. Browse amongst the beautiful floral displays enjoying canapés and wine, with music from harpist Xenia Horne, a member of the Guild of Wedding Professionals. Tickets are £5 each and can be booked here. The Festival continues on Saturday, June 11, 10am - 4pm and Sunday, June 12, 10am - 3pm with light refreshments, tombola, raffle, Fair Trade and cake stalls and photographic displays spanning 90 years of local interest.

Songs of Royalty, Loyalty and London at St Mary’s, West Somerton

On Friday June 10, 7.30pm there will be an evening of patriotic and other music from musical comedies and familiar songs from the Queen's reign by Vocal Score.  There is a cost of £10 per ticket and you can book here

Aylsham Flower Festival at St Michael's, Aylsham

Aylsham Parish Church's Flower Team come together to celebrate The Queen's 90th Birthday in flowers on Saturday, June 11 - Sunday, June 12 from 10am - 5pm. The church will be filled with flowers to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen's 90th Birthday. Nine beautiful displays will illustrate different aspects of the Queen's life and loves.  There will be refreshments available throughout the day.

Second Elizabethan Age Exhibition at St Nicholas, Dersingham

On Saturday, June 11 from 10am-3pm there will be a celebration of the village of Dersingham throughout the last 90 years, with displays from many different community groups.  There will be over 15 displays in the church of village history over the last 90 years, from Scouts and Guides to church groups of all denominations represented in the village, from sports teams to the Mothers' Union branch.  Light refreshments will be available all day in the church.

Afternoon Tea at Princes Street United Reformed Church, Norwich

Exhibition of Local Life at St Barnabas Church, Norwich

St Barnabas Church, Norwich are hosting an exhibition of local area and parish life with old street maps, photographs, press cuttings of people's stories over the years etc to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday. Light refreshments will be served.  It will be open from 2pm-5pm on Saturday, June 11 and from 12pm – 5pm on Sunday, June 12.

Organ Recital at Holy Trinity, Norwich

Church organist, Richard Cockaday will be giving an organ recital of music associated with the British Monarchy in celebration of the Queen's 90th Birthday on Saturday, June 11 at 7.00 pm.  Entry is free but donations can be made to Christian Aid. Queen's 90th Birthday Concert at St Andrew's, Felmingham

Local a cappella choir Double Octave will provide an evening of song, including audience participation on Saturday, June 11, 7.30pm to celebrate the Queen's Birthday.  The choir is hoping to perform a new work especially written for the occasion by their Musical Director, Graham Hoskins. Admission is free with a retiring collection.

A Summer Celebratory Concert at St Nicholas' Church, King's Lynn

On Saturday, June 11 at 7.30pm David Stowell and the imitable Bilton Silver (Rugby) Band will perform and celebrate the 90th Birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II in style.  Interval refreshments are included within the £10 ticket price, and plentiful car parking is available in the nearby Church Hall and Surgery car-parks.  With seating limited to 250 people you are warmly encouraged to pre-book your tickets by contacting our Box Office team

Indoor Street Party at Taverham Evangelical Church

Taverham Evangelical Church is hosting an indoor street party on Saturday, June 12 starting at 10.30am including worship, children's activities and homemade cakes.  The event will be a combination of TEC's normal Cafe Church and Messy Church services.

A Royal Family Fun Day at One Church, Drayton

Garden Party at Brundall Rectory

Parishioners and others are cordially invited to the Brundall Rectory Garden to enjoy afternoon tea and celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday on Sunday June 12, 2.00pm – 4.00pm. The Rectory adjoins the picturesque churchyard of St Laurence Church which dates back to the 13th century. Volunteers Picnic with Celebrate Norwich & Norfolk at St John the Baptist Cathedral

Celebrate Norwich & Norfolk will be marking The Queen’s 90th Birthday on Sunday June 12, with a free picnic to honour local Christian volunteers, followed by a Celebration service at St John the Baptist Cathedral in Norwich at 4.30pm – 5.30pm which is open to all.
 
Christian charities and organisations from across Norwich and Norfolk are being invited to nominate a volunteer and their family to attend the free picnic and fun afternoon at the Narthex visitor centre and its gardens at the St John the Baptist Cathedral, on Earlham Road in Norwich.
