Supermarket pledges support for Norwich foodbank

Norwich Foodbank Sainsburys
Norwich Foodbank has been boosted with news that it is to get a permanent new collection point at a Sainsburys store in the centre of Norwich city centre, as well as being amongst local charities nominated for a public vote.

The collection point is situated at Sainsburys on Queens Road in Norwich and the launch of this new venture took place on June 17 and 18. Staff at the store are engaged with this new initiative, and as part of the launch, they were on hand to show customers where the new collection point islocated, hand out shopping lists to give customers an idea of what items are most needed.

Norwich foodbank is in its 6th year of operation and while more and more people know about the work they do, it is vital that donations keep coming in to support those in crisis who have been referred by over 360 local agencies.

Cheryl Day (PR Ambassador for Queens Road Sainsburys) says: 'We are really excited to be to working with Norwich foodbank as we love to make a difference to the community that we live and work in and we look forward to seeing how this partnership  develops in the future.’

Hannah Worsley (Project Manager of Norwich foodbank) says: 'We are delighted that Sainsburys Queens Road has agreed to host a collection point, as this is an area of Greater Norwich where more places to donate have been requested. We hope staff and customers will be generous and support local people in crisis by donating non-perishable items such as long life milk and instant mashed potato.'

Norwich foodbank IS Sainsbury's charity of the year!

A huge thank you to everyone who voted in store and online - we are delighted to report that TWO Sainsburys stores have now accepted Norwich foodbank as their charity of the Year! Both Queen's Road and St Stephen's store will partner with us for the next 12 months, looking at ways to fundraise in store (amongst colleauges as well as customers!) and raise awareness of our work. Keep your eyes peeled for more info here, on our social media pages and in store!
