Taverham Evangelical Church Help Shop
The Taverham Evengelical Church Help Shop came into being simply because we were aware of the serious problems that many people in our community were having, particularly with debt. At the time we started we didn’t realise just how big the problem was or what our level of involvement or commitment would be.
Some 30 months on, we now have a fully operational and comfortably furnished Advice Centre where people with debt or benefit problems, or women in need of counselling can be assured of finding help in a friendly, welcoming environment. All the services that we offer are completely confidential and free of charge.
We have one full-time Manager/Senior Debt Adviser/ Benefits Adviser, two part-time Debt Advisers and a fully qualified Counsellor.
Women’s Counselling takes place on Mondays and Debt and Benefit Advice is available Monday to Friday.
We operate an appointment only system and our opening times are:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10.00am -12.30pm and 1.30pm – 4.00pm
Wednesdays 1.30pm – 8.30pm
Type/scope of work Debt Advice and Support Service, Welfare Benefits Advice and Female Counselling.
Aims/purposes The Help Shop is part of Taverham Evangelical Church (TEC) and its aim is to meet the needs of our community as identified above. Although our services are primarily available to all those who live in the Broadland area, we never turn anyone away, regardless of where they live.
Our aim is to be a centre of excellence delivering an efficient and professional service with high levels of customer care. Our objective is to be as good as, if not better, than any other secular organisation offering the same services as ourselves, and to give glory to God in all that we do.

Prayer requests The Help Shop is in the very blessed position of being fully funded for the next two years but after that we face the very real problem of securing new sources of funding. We’re trusting God to meet that need but at the same time we are very much aware that He requires us to do the ground work in finding potential new funders. Therefore our continuing prayer is that God will meet our needs for financial support and also give us opportunities to pray with those clients that come through our doors.
