FUNDING NEWS
BT Community Connections offers the opportunity to apply for a multi-media internet-ready PC and a contribution towards a year's broadband. Over 1,300 awards will be made in the next year to groups who can demonstrate how the prize will benefit their work and the local community. Application deadline is 15 February. Connecting Communities Plus makes grants of between £6-12,000 to support practical action to help achieve the goals set out in ‘Improving Opportunity, Strengthening Society’, the government's strategy to increase race equality and improve community cohesion. Awards for All from the Big Lottery Fund is reported to have sufficient funding to meet the majority of eligible applications in most regions. Grants from £300 - £10,000 are for people to take part in community activities and for projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community. In particular they are interested in initiatives celebrating the bicentenary of the abolition of slavery. For more info or phone 0845 600 20 40.
Baily Thomas is the largest trust dedicated to learning disabilities. They fund care and relief of those affected, making grants upwards from £250 for capital, revenue and project costs. The next deadline is 1 May. For application info or phone 01582 643125.

The Baptist Union is hosting an Asylum-Migrant Support Workshop on 28 March, at Baptist House, Didcot. This is a chance for churches and organisations to hear what others are doing, to share their own stories and to consider future responses. Cost is £15 including refreshments and lunch. Soundcheck is the annual gathering of the SPEAK network, happening 24- 25 February in Hackney, London – equipping young people to live out the Biblical calling for justice and care for the poor. The main speaker is Tony Campolo. Cost is £50, concessions £35. For more info phone 020 7249 4309.

Act Justly is a conference being run jointly by Christian Aid and Faithworks on 6 March in London. Bishop Tom Wright will be the keynote speaker examining the theology of social justice, and exploring how it is being worked out in the local community. Cost is £10. For more info visit or email.
Understanding Community Development is a course being run on 15 February by Community Development Foundation in London. Aging Gracefully: How churches can work effectively with older people is an interactive free training day on 16 March from 9:45-3:30pm at St. Clement’s Church, Bradford hosted by the Shaftesbury Society. ‘What is homelessness?’ is a new report published by London Metropolitan University and homelessness charity Centrepoint. It examines the attitudes of parents and young people on the risks of running away and homelessness in London. The Institute of Fundraising has launched The Good Fundraising Guide, an introduction to fundraising for charities and fundraisers. The comprehensive 64-page guide is aimed at new fundraisers and volunteers and is free to download.
The Community Development Challenge is a new report available from the Community Development Exchange website, looking at how people can make the most of opportunities presented by Government's developing emphasis on community engagement. Freely download the summary or full report.
