Procession canopySunday afternoon talks at Wymondham Abbey

Following their success last year, Wymondham Abbey is now planning a further series of monthly free Sunday afternoon talks, focusing on local history.

The March talk, 'Pancakes to Passiontide' takes us back 500 years to look at how Lent would have been celebrated in Wymondham in 1524, on the eve of the Reformation. Fascinating insights into the customs of the day come from two ancient documents in the church archives, both of which will be displayed on the day. The talk is in the Abbey at 3 pm on Sunday 17 March, given by Archivist John Herne and historian Richard Barton-Wood.

On Sunday 28 April the intriguing title is 'Heard but Rarely Seen - What's up in the Tower?'. Abbey Ringing Master Hayden Charles will tell all about the history, technology and personalities behind Wymondham's church bells.

May's talk, on Sunday 26 is presented by Helen Baczkowska of the Norfolk Wildlife Trust. Helen will explain how the Trust now works with churches across the county to support conservation projects in the unique habitats of our country churchyards.

All talks are free (with retiring collection) and held in the church starting at 3pm. Refreshments will be available before and after the talks.
