Volunteer opportunities at Norfolk hotel
Volunteers are invited to spend a year at The Pleasaunce, a Christian Endeavour Holiday Centre, near Cromer, in North Norfolk, under the Volunteer Programme for the staff team.
There are currently volunteer team members from Poland, Germany, The Czech Republic, Brazil, and from Romania working at the friendly hotel and other are expected from Korea and Chile.
Team members will receive free board and lodging and may have to share a room. They will receive a monthly allowance of £140 and the hotel managers will assist in opening a bank account if needed. They will also be entitled to 1.5 days off per week.
Hours of work are 7.00 – 10.40, 1100 – 13.00, 16.00-19.00, with 30 minutes for breakfast and 30 minutes for supper. Staff eat the same food as guests.
Manager Charles Buxton said: “We hope volunteers will participate in the Christian activities led by my wife Veronica, attendance at weekly Bible study is however mandatory. We will facilitate attendance at church on Sundays.
Veronica said: "We are looking for committed Christians that would see it as a calling rather than just a time out or a stepping stone to improve their English. We're also looking for people who might be interested in the garden and starting a vegetable garden."
“English is spoken while at work, which involves all activities one would expect in a hotel. For example in the dining room, dish wash room, kitchen, vegetables preparation, washing up, cleaning, gardening, and food preparation, all done on a rota basis. Staff will learn good English in an active Christian environment and when you have completed 6 months you will receive a reference.”
Team members must bring ‘black and white’ for serving at table, and black ‘house shoes’. We supply two new ‘Pleasaunce’ polo shirts, which you may keep when you leave. Laundry is free for staff.

Hours: five and half days per week (hours as above)
Allowance paid: Pocket money: £140-00 (GBP) per calendar month. Paid in cash/ cheque on the last Friday of the month.
