Rev's marathon run between two churches
2007: Running reverend Phillip Young has jogged 26 miles to his new parish in Norwich, just two weeks after completing the London Marathon.
Phillip has already raised more than £6,000 to help people in deprived countries when he ran in the capital's biggest sporting event.
But rather than put up his feet, he has raised thousands more by jogging from his old parish at Roydon, near Diss, to his new one at St Thomas Heigham in Earlham Road, Norwich - a distance of exactly 26 miles.
He completed the run on May 3 in five-and-a-half-hours before taking over as vicar of St Thomas Heigham on May 17.
Phillip said: “I just couldn't get over the coincidence, so I thought: Why not? I'll run to work.”
He hopes to raise a total of £10,000 for WaterAid, which helps improve clean water and sanitation in the world's poorest countries.
Philip ran the London Marathon in four and a half hours and planned to do the second marathon in about five. As well as raise funds, he wants to raise awareness about the sanitation problems faced in the developing world.
He added: “When I run this marathon I'll be thinking about how many taps I'll be passing. In some countries there's only one tap to an entire village, or just a dirty hole in the ground.
“The sanitation is not good and sometimes their drinking water gets mixed up with the sewage. The positive message is that WaterAid is doing something, for instance just £100 pays for a hand pump that supplies 10 houses in Nepal.
“WaterAid is very close to my heart. Dirty water kills a child about every 15 seconds, but we take our clean water for granted.”
