FUNDING NEWS

Hilton in the Community Foundation makes grants to smaller charities that work with young people, especially education, awareness and training. There are no application deadlines and grants can up to £50,000. Download a copy of the guidelines and application form. For further details phone 020 7605 7733 or email.
The P F Charitable Trust supports a range of causes, with youth welfare featuring highly. Written applications are considered monthly for part of the £3 million a year grant fund: D H Pocknee, Ely House, 37 Dover Street, London, W1S 4NJ. Phone 020 7409 5600.
The Hedley Foundation mainly funds registered charities supporting young people through education, training, health and welfare. It also supports those helping the disabled and the terminally ill. The Government Funding website is a useful resource to keep in touch with what government grants and funding are available. You can search the site or enter your criteria to be emailed when a relevant fund becomes available.
Comic Relief runs a Disadvantaged Communities Programme that makes grants of up to £5,000 to local community groups and charities that address social and economic deprivation within specific geographic areas such as a housing estate, neighbourhood or village and have a turnover of less than £150,000. Applications can be made at any time. For further information or download an application form.
Waste Recycling Environmental Limited (WREN) make grants under the Landfill Communities Fund. The majority of grants (between £2,000 and £50,000) go to the eastern half of England, and are for 'environmental' projects, which include children's play equipment, community gardens, etc. Download an application form.
TRAINING NEWS AND EVENTS

The ACEVO Funding Roadshow is happening in Westminster on 14 June, Birmingham on 21 June and Huddersfield on 26 June. These include presentations from statutory, lottery and trust funders. Cost is £125 including lunch and a networking reception. Phone 020 8642 4122.
The Building a People of Power tour is a series of discussion days with Dr Bob Linthicum, who is experienced in using the power of the church to change local communities. The YMCA George Williams College (London) is piloting a course that leads to an Advanced Professional Certificate in Working with Homeless People. This is a distance learning course and students will also have to complete 240 hours of professional practice. The normal cost of the course will be £850, but the pilot phase is a subsidised £250. The National Christian Alliance on Prostitution (NCAP) has produced a new church resource called 'Breaking the Chains'. This includes case studies and materials as well as practical suggestions for churches working with women involved in prostitution and is available for £5 +p&p. Fields in Trust (FIT) is the new name for the National Playing Fields Association. This reflects the fact that its work has expanded to protecting and improving recreation areas like children's playgroundsand leisure areas for older people, not just community playing fields.
