FUNDING NEWS

 
WiredUpCashV is an independent charity championing youth volunteering in England. V has announced £70m funding for organisations to develop and deliver innovative volunteering opportunities which are accessible and engaging to 16- to 25-year- olds. The fund has two strands: (1) capacity-building youth volunteering organisations and (2) delivering new volunteering opportunities. Expressions of interest need to be received by 10 August. The deadline for the GlaxoSmithKline IMPACT Awards is approaching - 28 September. Ten awards of £25,000 recognise and reward charities that are doing excellent work to improve people's health. Runners-up receive £3,000- £5,000. Past winners have included those working in the following fields: drug alcohol and solvent abuse; patients newly discharged from hospital; young people needing counselling; and victims of rape and childhood sexual abuse. The Jephcott Charitable Trust has launched new guidelines, which include health and education projects. The trust prefers pump-priming and project grants, generally in the range of £2,000- £10,000. The next trustees' meeting is in October. The Anchor Foundation supports Christian charities concerned with social inclusion particularly through ministries of healing and the arts. They make grants of between £500 and £10,000 for capital or revenue needs. The deadline for the next of the twice yearly trustees' meetings is 31 August. The Church and Community Fund supports community projects run by, or in partnership with, the Church of England. Annual grants total £500k with the broad aim of encouraging better connection church and community. Trustees meet quarterly. Download the guidelines and application form or call the Fund Secretary on 020 7898 1000.

It's Your Community, from the mobile phone service- provider, O2, makes community awards of between £100 and £1,000. These awards are made "for anything that you can show will benefit your community". Applications are considered on a month-by-month basis. TRAINING NEWS AND EVENTS

 
WiredUpComputersChange Agents: Sustaining Transformation is a national conference being hosted by Faithworks, 1-3 November in central London. It will explore how we can embed Christian spirituality, enterprise and sustainability into our engagement with our communities to bring change that lasts. Fundraising for Community Ministry Projects is a free workshop being run at London Diocesan House, on 7 November. The workshop will specifically focus on the challenge of continuation funding and the need for flexibility as projects develop. Are you really managing? is a training event being hosted by Grooms-Shaftesbury in Battersea, London on 27 September. The day is for anyone who manages people within the church and will focus on how your personal management style can be improved, taking into account the pressures of church leadership. Finding Sacred Spaces is the eighth annual conference of the National Christian Alliance on Prostitution (NCAP) happening 30 November - 2 December at Hothorpe Hall, Leicestershire. Different streams will cater for those involved in this ministry as well as those interested in learning more. Cost is from £111 for a multi- occupancy room. Day rates and concessions are available. WiredUpBooksReaching Out is an England-wide project providing advice and skilled volunteers to faith, rural, black and minority ethnic, and refugee and migrant groups. With input from the project these frontline groups can strengthen their know-how and benefit from experienced REACH volunteers. 'What Management Committees Need to Know' is a guide to help small voluntary organisations, and is produced by the Governance Hub. It provides an introduction to key issues especially for trustees and management committee members. You can freely download the 36-page PDF booklet.
The Urban Churches Support Group has produced a report on how urban churches can provide pastoral care for people with chronic illnesses. Click here to find out more or freely download the Chronic Illness report direct.
NAVCA has published a pamphlet entitled ' Sustaining Grants'. This argues that grant aid is an essential part of the local funding mix for community organisations and remains essential for thriving local communities. They hope that this pamphlet will be used by local community groups and others to promote the benefits of an active community and voluntary sector and to maintain or increase grant funding.
The Volunteering Hub (overseen by Volunteering England) is a useful portal for many aspects of working with volunteers. This initiative includes the Investing in Volunteers award which is the UK quality standard. There is also a bank of online information sheets, including definitions of volunteering and resources to assist with volunteering.
