Call To Prayer

Adopt a Week of Prayer launched in Norwich

PrayerCrowdNorfolk Call to Prayer’s Adopt a Week of Prayer initiative was launched in Norwich on September 22, 2007 and a number of churches have signed up for a slot. Gail Halley reports.

A good number of people representing a cross-section of churches from both Norwich and Norfolk attended the launch of Adopt A Week of Prayer at Bowthorpe Community Church on Saturday 22 September.

Adopt A Week is a Call to Prayer initiative, and Jill Gower, leader of Call to Prayer, gave a short history of Call to Prayer since it started in 2000, and the way in which it has grown and become increasingly involved in prayer events and activities in the area.

Jill started by paying tribute to the many prayer organisations which had gone before. “We are aware that we are reaping where many others have sown,” she said, mentioning especially Brenda Huddleston of the Regional East Anglian Prayer Network (REAP) which had come about after Mission England in 1984.

There was then an introduction to the ‘prayer box’ which the Adopt A Week team had put together for participating churches. This contains a variety of resources to encourage prayer, both locally (eg for the many ministries and agencies in the area) and nationally, eg for Hope 2008, as well as books, a DVD and some samples of how to run an Adopted Week.

We started our week of prayer last night (24/7). We are praying for 24 hours a day for this first seven days of advent. We are expecting great things from our great big God as we listen for his voice. The Well Christian Centre, Swaffham Road, Ashill is open 24 hours a day for this period, so come and see the Tabernacle as well as other activities to maybe give you an idea of what you can do in your church(es).
