Tributes paid to Christian pioneer Rob Frost

RobFrostChristian churches and organisations have been honouring and remembering Christian broadcaster and author  Rob Frost, who died on Sunday November 11.

The Evangelical Alliance, Premier Radio, and the Methodist Church are among many Christian organisations which have paid tribute to the broadcaster and founder of Share Jesus International, who died in hospital.

He was diagnosed with skin cancer in June and underwent treatment. He was taken into hospital on Wednesday 7 November 2007, as his condition worsened.

Rob Frost was in great demand as a preacher, the International Director of the International Leadership Institute based in Atlanta and the author of over 25 books. He presented Premier Radio's flagship current affairs programme called Frost on Sunday and his weekly TV show on the God Channel was broadcast under the title the Frost Debate.

He lectured in mission and evangelism at London School of Theology, was a regular teacher at theological institutions throughout the UK and visited Norwich several times.

Though a convinced evangelical Christian, he maintained wide links - contributing a foreword to a book by academic Stephen Plant about the ecumenical German Lutheran theologian and victim of the Nazis, Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

Frost also formed a bond with Christian Peacemaker Teams' Iraq hostage Norman Kember, and spoke on his behalf and in favour of Christian peacemaking on a number of occasions.

As the Director and then President Emeritus of Share Jesus International, an inter-denominational mission agency which he founded 25 years ago, he initiated scores of projects including Easter People, a conference which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year.

He also served as President of Release International, an agency which cares for Christians mistreated and oppressed for their faith throughout the world.

Rob Frost leaves behind his wife Jacqui, his two sons Andy and Chris, and his father Ronald.
The Rev Joel Edwards, General Director of the Evangelical Alliance, described Rob Frost as “one of the bright light champions for evangelical witness, evangelistic fervour and creativity; an outstanding pioneer.”

Dr Edwards continued: ”His aspiration to rediscover the spirit of Pentecost and make it accessible to culture through the church is a vision which he didn't live to see but this will have been his final legacy to Christian faith in Britain.

David Heron, chair of Premier Radio said: “Rob had a most unique, skilful, ministry within the Methodist denomination and wider Church.

“He had the heart of an evangelist and obviously he was a broadcaster as well. He had an extraordinary ministry that will have an effect on the lives of the people he touched for all eternity.”

I would like to give thanks to God Almighty through Jesus Christ our Lord and Master for the life of and talents of Rob Frost. We pray that his family will know the comfort and the presence of our Lord in this time and take solace in knowing that Rob has run the race and that he is safe with His Lord Master to be united with us all on that day!

I had the privilege of organising, on behalf of Living Water, a "tour" in this region for the Frost family. Robe was travelling with his wonderful father Ronald and one of his sons - Andy. What a witness he was in the way he honoured his father and encouraged his son. When either the younger or the elder ran over time Rob was always happy for his "slot" to be cut in preference to them. He was a very humble man. I praise God for his witness. Our prayer go out to his family.

I count it a privilege to have worked alongside Rob for much of the last 20 years, and to have been involved in a number of projects... Share Jesus Missions, the Seed Team programme, and the Easter People weeks. He was always an inspiration and an encouragement when working together, as well as a genuine support in difficult times. At his funeral, it was said that many counted him as 'a friend', and he was a dear friend, such was the warmth of his caring pastoral touch. But, as a colleague, he was clearly among us as a gifted evangelist, and disturbing prophetic voice and an inspiring apostolic leader. His God-given ministry has been a huge blessing to the Church I serve - and, though he will be greatly missed by Jacqui, Andy & Chris, and his father, Ronald, his stirring vision for a church that Jesus would be pleased to come to lives on.
