Practice Centering Prayer at Norwich workshop

Gain an introduction to the practice of Centering Prayer, a form of silent Christian meditation, at this six-hour workshop on September 16.

The Norwich Christian Meditation Centre and Contemplative Outreach are hosting a one-day workshop on Saturday, September 16, 10am – 4pm, called ‘Transforming the Heart: An Introduction to Centering Prayer Meditation’.

The workshop held at St Augustine’s Church Hall in Norwich, will introduce participants to the silent prayer practice of Centering Prayer. Developed in the 1970s by a group of Cistercian monks in the United States, Centering Prayer, is now practiced by thousands of individuals and groups around the world.

Liz Day, Co-founder of Contemplative Outreach East and Southeast England said: “Centering Prayer is a silent prayer practice that opens us to the experience of God's presence, beyond concepts, words and images.”

Liz and Debbie“As we very gently let go of thoughts during the prayer time with the help of a sacred word, we manifest our intention to be whole-heartedly present to the Divine at the centre of our being and all around us. The patient practice of this inward gesture of letting go facilitates a process of self-emptying and gradually orientates us to a new way of being with ourselves and in the world.”

All are welcome, whether new to meditation practice or looking for a fresh approach, whether you are an old hand at Centering Prayer and would welcome a refresher session or if you're in 12 step recovery and looking for an 11th step practice.

The programme for the day will include talks, discussion and opportunities for group practice. It will be presented by Liz Day and Debbie House

Liz has been practising Centering Prayer for 14 years and has worked and studied with national and international teachers of Centering Prayer.
Debbie discovered Centering Prayer in 2008 and is now a presenter-in-training with Contemplative Outreach.

Both Liz and Debbie have facilitated Centering Prayer groups, attended retreats and taken part in internationally renowned retreat leader Rev Dr Cynthia Bourgeault's Wisdom Schools.

The fee for the workshop is £30, but don't let this be a block to you attending - please get in touch with Liz if you need a reduced rate.
