RowanWilliams12009: The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams visited St Mary Magdalen Church in Wiggenhall, near King's Lynn, as part of the 900th birthday celebrations of the Diocese of Ely on Saturday January 24.

During his visit, Dr Williams chatted to the congregation and answered questions about the future of the church and its role in the community.

He also gave a speech and said a prayer during the service, which was lead by the Rev Diana Penny, who spoke about the problems facing small rural congregations.

Dr Williams said he enjoyed the visit, which was his first to the village.

He said: “A church is a huge asset to a community because it is there for everybody, I think there are plenty of possibilities here and some very devoted volunteers.
