Norfolk Christian charity is a best-kept secret

ProspectsPeople420A Christian charity which works in Norfolk to support adults with a learning disability to lead full and active lives is one of the church’s best-kept secrets says support manager Carole Thompson. It is also looking for new staff to help it move to Norwich.

Prospects is a Christian charity which supports adults with a learning disability to lead full and active lives. We also aim is to introduce people to the love of Jesus through practical action and the possibility of a personal faith for themselves.

We already have one project in Long Stratton in South Norfolk and are set to also move to Norwich and will need people to support and work for us there.

Prospects began just over 30 years ago in Wales as the result of an article written by the Rev. David Potter who himself had a daughter with a learning disability. His article ‘A Cause For Concern’ voiced the many concerns that Christian parents have as to, not only who would care for their son or daughter when they were no longer around but, who would also provide Christian support. The first home was opened in Wales by a group of concerned parents.

The birth of Prospects was bathed in prayer. Each new venture has continued to be born out of faith, hope and prayer.

ProspectsLogo300Today Prospects has three main areas of work – Care and Support, Ministry and Mission and International Prospects. You will find Prospects at work throughout the UK. This ranges from providing support to enable people to live in their own homes to support for groups which Churches set up to encourage and nurture those with a learning disability in their Christian faith. Prospects also support projects overseas with encouragement and professional guidance.

In Long Stratton there is already a project which supports three adults to live in their own home?  However, things are changing! Prospects are looking to move to Norwich. We want to expand our provision. We want people to know about our service and what we have to offer.

There will be lots of opportunities for people to get involved as volunteers or perhaps to work for Prospects. We would value your prayer support as we seek to look for new staff and premises.

Working for Prospects is much more than a job. It a ministry in itself as we seek to support those in our care in a Christian, as well as, professional manner.

We are currently looking for a new member of staff who would enjoy a varied and rewarding post – please see our advert for more details.

A good sense of humour, stamina and the desire to see the people we support grow in independence in all areas of their lives are needed. Above all, a real heart for people is essential. If this sounds like you, why not contact me on 01508 536059 or at carolet@prospects.org.uk for an informal chat?
