Norfolk shoebox appeal seeks place to pack

ShoeboxAppeal333The Norfolk branch of Operation Christmas Child is seeking new premises for its team of volunteers to collate and sort the thousands of shoeboxes that the county’s churches, schools and voluntary groups donate each year.

Operation Christmas Child is an annual project run by the Christian international relief charity Samaritan’s Purse.  Used shoe boxes are packed with small toys, educational supplies, sweets and other gifts for young children who could otherwise receive no Christmas present at all.

Collating, sorting and packing the donated shoeboxes is a mammoth task and the charity is seeking a suitable venue for a few weeks with enough space to sort and store the boxes until they are ready for transportation.

Shirley Barber, Area Co-ordinator for Norfolk said, "Once again I'm looking for free premises to sort and check the shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child, and yes, I know it's only June!"

They need somewhere from the end of October until the first week of December available from Monday to Friday, 10 am – 3 pm. They need to be able to make hot drinks as the volunteers coming in after collecting are usually cold! Toilet facilities are necessary too.

If you know of potentially suitable premises for this valuable work please contact Shirley on 01263 735100 or sbarber12@btinternet.com
