Catholic medals presented by Norfolk policeman

A Norfolk policeman presented medals to Catholic Police Guild members during Mass at Westminster Cathedral celebrating the centenary of the founding of the guild.

PopeFrancisPoliceHelmet450Andrew Nattrass, a serving Norfolk officer and chairman of the guild was joined by Cardinal Vincent Nichols, guild secretary Chris Sloan and Fellows of the guild who were being honoured for extensive and dedicated service.

Andrew, who describes himself as a humble traffic cop, delivered a very impressive speech in front of members of the guild and their families who were representing different parts of the country and Sir Peter Fahy, chief constable of Greater Manchester.

Cardinal Nichols paid tribute to the guild and recognised members for applying Christian principles to their work. He described the calling of the guild members by quoting Pope St John Paul II who said “enthusiastically serve the cause of civic harmony and well-being, with sensitivity and Christian hope.”

Cardinal Nichols was presented with one of three specially cast medals celebrating the centenary year by Rev Father Barry Lomax, national chaplain to the guild. The medal is exactly the same as the one presented to Pope Francis in May.

Pictured is Andrew Nattrass handing a Metropolitan Police helmet to Pope Francis in May, with Rev Father Barry Lomax to his left.
