Priest’s North Norfolk pilgrimage

2016: Poppyland Benefice Rector, Rev'd Canon David Roper, has just completed a pilgrimage by walking his seven parishes in his group of north Norfolk parishes over a three day period.

Canon Roper set off from Antingham, pictured above, on Tuesday May 10, and finished in Trimingham, pictured below on Thursday afternoon May 12.
His 14 mile route also included Thorpe Market, Southrepps, Northrepps, Overstrand and Sidestrand, from where he completed his journey along the clifftop to Trimingham. He paused for prayer and reflection at each of the churches along his route.
St John the Baptists head TrimHis trail included paths taken by worshippers in the middle ages to the holy shrine at Walsingham in their faithful in a display of religious devotion. He passed the stump cross at Southrepps, which is a remnants of a wayside marker on ancient pilgrimage routes.
Canon Roper returned to North Norfolk last year having served a spell on the Falkland Islands, featuring in the BBC2 series “An Island parish”. He was inspired to undertake the pilgrimage in order to bring his parishes closer together and mark his first six months as rector of the Poppyland group of parishes.
