Yarmouth's Port Chaplain's hours of work to be reduced

Barry Capon
Chairperson, Good Work (Norfolk & Waveney Industrial Mission) Ltd

Good Work (Norfolk and Waveney Industrial Mission) Ltd employs the Rev Peter Paine as the Port Chaplain of Great Yarmouth. Currently this is a full time post.  However, they are sorry to announce that from 1st February 2017 the post will be part time only- 2.5 days per week. The Trustees of Good Work are sorry to do this but are faced with financial difficulties which make it necessary

The Mission to Seafarers, who oversee and direct the work of the Rev Paine, will provide partial funding for 2 days a week for 2017 at a rate of 50% of their current grant. The Rev Paine will use the 2.5 days flexibly in the light of demands but will primarily be visiting ships in the port as now

He will continue to give a service to the Town Hall staff, as he does currently

The Trustees of Good Work will be reviewing the port chaplain role during 2017 and will decide what may be possible in 2018 and in the years after that
