Sheringham church launches community meals

2017: Lighthouse Community Church in Sheringham have launched a new community meal, which will be available every Thursday lunchtime. Tony Rothe reports.

Known as “Meet and Eat”, the meal comprises a two-course set meal for only £5, and is open to anyone in the community of any age.

The launch was yesterday, April 6, when the meal on offer was home-made cottage pie with cauliflower, carrots and potatoes, followed by chocolate fudge cake with cream. Meals for the rest of April will include sausage and mash, chicken casserole and Yorkshire pudding filled with savoury mince, with desserts such as bread & butter pudding, apple crumble, and lemon meringue.

lighthouse meet and eat team 6“This is more than just turning up at the café for a meal” explained café manager Maggie Rothe, “The idea is that everyone sits together, chats, and gets to know each other”.

“Meet and Eat” is every Thursday until further notice, arriving at 12.15pm for a 12.30pm start.
Please book in advance by 1pm the day before on 01263 825155 or 01263 669012, or call in at Lighthouse reception.

“Meet and Eat” is part of a range of recent changes at Lighthouse Café, which received a re-furbished counter area at the start of the year, with new signage in the Soft Play zone, and new orange aprons for the staff, sporting the Lighthouse logo.

The café menu is about to be updated, but Maggie assure customers that the old favourites will still be available. The normal range of hot meals will not be available on Thursdays when Meet and Eat is taking place, although the full range of hot and cold drinks and cakes etc will continue to be served.

“We believe we serve the finest coffee and tea in Sheringham” said Maggie. “We welcome anyone to call in and see if you agree!”

Lighthouse café is open:
10.30am to 1.30pm on Tuesdays
10.30am to 2.30pm on Wednesdays
11.00am to 2.30pm on Thursdays
