Cromer church toddlers 640CF

Who let the Dads out at Cromer Church?

2017: This September sees the launch of a new toddler group at Cromer Church, but a toddler group aimed primarily at Dads rather than Mums.

Who Let The Dads Out? addresses the growing demand for male-orientated parenting groups, and is specifically aimed at giving fathers and their preschool children the opportunity to have some fun and spend quality time together. It is a growing church initiative that aims to strengthen families and support the wider community by reaching out to fathers, father figures and children, primarily through Saturday parent and toddler sessions.

A typical session will involve a relaxed welcome, lots of age-appropriate toys/crafts, juice and biscuits for the children, countless bacon rolls, great coffee, good conversations and men gathered around a table discussing the best strategy for making the most effective paper plane! Everyone leaves with full stomachs and happy memories.

Simon Fenn, Head of Mission at Cromer Church, who will be leading the project, said “As a new Dad myself, I think this is a fantastic initiative that is much needed in the area. It’s an excellent way for the Church to engage with the wider community, provide dads with the space to build positive relationships with their children, socialise with other dads and give Mum some time off!”

The effect on fathers and children is significant, but it also impacts positively on the wider family. The sessions encourage dads to engage in parenting their children and consequently, engage better with their partners in the role of parents. In recent survey, 54.2% of Dads said, “I think my children and I have a better relationship as a result of attending this group”, with another 45.8% saying, “I feel better supported to be a dad/father figure as a result of spending time with the dads/friends here”.

The new group will run from 8.30am to 10.30am on every second Saturday of the month, except in August, in the Parish Church lounge.  The first session will be on Saturday September 9.  A donation of £2.00 per family is requested.
