Norfolk churches' Light Party alternative to Halloween
 

With Halloween becoming a bigger phenomenon in the UK each year, many churches in Norwich and Norfolk are choosing to host a Light Party at the end of October, offering children a fun, spook-free alternative to trick or treating.  

Churches across Norwich and Norfolk are offering children a fun, scare-free alternative to Halloween by hosting Light Parties at the end of October.

This year, One Church in Norwich is teaming up with Norwich Elim Church to host a Light Party on the Saturday before Halloween. The party for children aged up to ten years old, is free, and will include messy play, crafts and a Light Party gift bag to take away.

Sam Collinson, Minister in Training at One Church said: “We are hoping to reach non-Christian families but we want to use this as a chance to bless and encourage Christian families as well.”

Norwich Central Baptist Church is hosting two Light Parties on Thursday, October 31 at their Mousehold Hub venue. Children in school years 1-6 will be enjoying fun games, facepainting, crafts and prizes from 5pm-6.30pm followed by a party for young people in school years 7-12 from 7pm-8.30pm. It costs £1.50 and children are asked to wear bright clothes.

On October 31 Surrey Chapel are hosting a Light Party for Reception to Year 5 from 6pm-7.15pm, and then an Escape Room alternative Halloween event for Years 6 to 13 from 7.30pm-9.15pm. Both events are free. 

Children aged 2-10 are invited to Holy Trinity Norwich’s Light Party on Thursday, October 31, 4.30pm-6.30pm.  Join them for games, craft, music, drama production, hot food and more. Fancy dress is welcome, but not Halloween costumes. 

Gateway Vineyard Church in Norwich are hosting a free Light Party on Friday, October 25, 10am-12noon at Easton Village Hall. It is aimed at 0-5's (but open to all kids) with messy play, crafts, games and party food. Visit our Facebook page for more details and to let the team know you are coming.

On Saturday, October 26 Gateway Vineyard are also running their 'no trick its our treat' neon themed event at the Dussindale centre in Thorpe st Andrew from 6pm-7.45pm. This is free, aimed at primary school age kids but again open to all age kids. Crafts, Neon face and nail painting, games, activities, music, and hotdogs. Bowthorpe Church are hosting a Light Party on Thursday, October 31 from 4.30pm-6.30pm with games, treats, crafts and food.

Poringland and Framingham Earl Churches’ Together will host their annual Light Café at Poringland Village Hall from 6pm-9pm on Thursday, October 31.  It is free of charge and there will be crafts, games, hotdogs and drinks.  Rev Rachel Foster said: "Church members will also be out on the street in high-vis vests with ‘Churches Together’ printed on, interacting with young people and families, giving out sweets and fliers advertising the event at the hall. They will be telling the revellers that they are praying for them for safety and a fun evening. In the hall will be a prayer team linked directly to the street teams by telephone for prayer back up."

Aylsham Parish Church is having a Light Party on Thursday, October 31, 5pm-7pm full of fun activities, treats (not tricks), crazy games and music for children in Reception to Year 6. It costs £1.50 per child including food and refreshments.

A Family Light Party at Cromer Church will celebrate light and life on October, 31 from 5-7pm with a neon disco, luminous face painting, crazy games, glow stick crafts, food and fun for all the family.  Everyone is welcome to this event and you're requested to book in advance here. A donation of £2 per family is requested to include refreshments and party food. No scary costumes please!

Kingsgate Community Church in Great Yarmouth are hosting a Neon Kids Party for children aged 4-11 on October 31 from 5pm-6.30pm. They promise hot dogs, milkshake making, a bouncy castle, beat the goalie, biscuit decorating and much more. No scary costumes please - just neon fancy dress. 

All Saints Church in Belton is hosting a Light Party on the night of Halloween, 5.30pm-7.30pm with a bouncy  castle, crafts, food, songs and music. They ask that children not wear black costumes and promise lots of sweets to take home.

Hemblington's All Saints Church is hosting their annual light party for children aged 0-16 years at Heathlands Community Centre on Saturday, October 26 at 4pm–6pm. There will be lantern making, crafts, games and stories, followed by afternoon tea. It’s free and children should be accompanied by an adult.
