Norwich couple help with Ugandan ministry

UgandaChildrenA Norwich couple have just returned from three weeks spent working with an expanding Christian ministry in Uganda that was first conceived by an African pastor while he was training in Norwich.

Brian and Elspeth Fawcett (members of Kings Community Church Norwich) were working with Life Ministries Christian Centre (LMCC) in Kampala and the surrounding region.

LMCC was started in 1992 by Emmanuel Rucyaba following a revelation from God while he was training in Norwich with the late Dr Bob Gordon. Over the years the ministry has grown and encompasses 85 churches, medical centres, a hospital (under construction), nursery, primary and secondary schools, pastors training colleges, a street children’s project, a child sponsorship programme, micro finance and an agricultural farm project operating throughout Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

UgandaFawcettThe Fawcett’s have a real heart for the work being carried out in this part of Africa and were involved in leadership training, schools work, community outreach and assisted with an organisational overview and restructuring during their visit.

Brian said: “It is really amazing experiencing what God is doing through his people in this area where there is so much need and so little resource. Over the years we have seen this ministry blossom and we are really excited to be involved in the ongoing work of LMCC. Whilst God is the enabler he calls many people to stand with Emmanuel and his team to provide resources, sponsorship and volunteer help.

"The medical clinic in Kigali, Rwanda is almost complete and we are presently praying for a doctor and nurse so that it can be opened early in 2009."

The street children’s project works with children (some orphaned) who beg for a living and live on the streets. Over a two-year period the team at Life Ministries have helped some of these children either to be placed back in their homes or with relatives, re-establish relationship, and once this is successful they are then placed in schools so they can receive an education.

There are presently 38 children in this programme receiving a sponsored education with many more children in need. This is only one of the worthwhile projects which require funding and people with a heart to make a difference.
