Latest news in brief includes over 100 children in festive spirit at a Norwich church, an invitation to a black-tie charity ball in Norwich and the launch of a winter campaign in a city church.
Over 100 children met Father Christmas and got into the creative festive spirit at a Norwich church last Saturday (December 3) as part of a bid to spend more quality time together.
Families were invited to Sprowston Methodist church in Cozens Hardy Road to spend time with each other at an event organised by volunteers from the church including Chris and Tina Callaghan.
Tina said: “The church should be about the community and it’s important to have family time. The children had a great day taking part in colouring competitions and all the crafts on offer. Some of them even had a go at bell ringing.”
Chris, who is the families worker for the church, added: “It’s nice to see all ages of the church come together.
 Two women from a Norwich church who are organising a charity ball to raise £10,000 for a Christian charity founded in Norfolk which supports street children in one of the world’s most violent cities, are appealing for people to buy tickets for the event as soon as possible.
Valerie Thorne, from Hellesdon, and Lisa-Marie Platford, from Thorpe St Andrew, both attend City Church in Norwich. They are organising the ball to be held at the Mercure Norwich Hotel in Boundary Road, Norwich, on March 24 for the charity Let The Children Live!
Tickets for the black-tie event, including a four-course dinner, singer Glen Cooper and disco, are £27.50 each and can be bought from Valerie on 01603 314520.
Norwich churches, Christian charity Norwich foodbank and Norwich North MP Chloe Smith have teamed up to collect blankets and hot water bottles to be distributed to those most at need.
On December 3, Ms Smith launched a new stage in her Warm Up for Winter campaign at Oak Grove Chapel in Catton Grove Road, where people were invited to donate blankets and hot water bottles for elderly and vulnerable in greatest need in Norwich.
