The
Bishop of Norwich, the Right Rev Graham James has written an Easter message for the
Eastern Daily Press talking about a tandem skydive he is set to complete for the
Matthew Project and how it will be a real leap of faith for him. He writes:
"In a month’s time I am doing a tandem skydive. As the days get nearer, excitement and nervousness grow. I don’t like heights, but I imagine I won’t have much time to be scared as we jump into the sky. It’s a leap of faith, prompted by my admiration for a wonderful local charity. The Matthew Project brings new life to people affected by drug and alcohol problems, and to their families and friends.
"It’s a great cause. It will still be the Easter season when I make the jump because Easter doesn’t finish at the end of this weekend. It lasts for 50 days. It’s the biggest feast of all in the Christian calendar and the most important. It’s a time for taking leaps of faith."

Eight south Norfolk villages are celebrating 50 years of being joined together into a group of parishes. The
Hempnall Group, which includes the parishes of
Hempnall, Topcroft, Fritton, Morningthorpe, Bedingham, Woodton, Shelton and
Hardwick, celebrated the special anniversary with an Easter Day service at Hempnall Church, led by
Rev Dr Alan Winton, Bishop of Thetford.
The Hempnall Group, was formed in April 1964 when the villages found themselves without a priest and the then
Bishop of Norwich, Launcelot Fleming, asked
Rev Peter Bradshaw, late father of
Ben Bradshaw MP, to take on the challenge of leading a team of two other clergy to get the eight rural villages to work together and build a strong local community in south Norfolk.
Group team vicar
Liz Billett said: “Our experience of working with these churches over a combined total of 17 years is that all the local communities have enjoyed the benefits of being part of a group, whether it may be worshipping together for group services on a Sunday or for local events in the area.
