Double award for Norwich church website
St Thomas Church in Norwich has collected two awards this month for their website, which gained recognition in Network Norfolk's own digital media awards as well as the national Premier awards which were presented in London.
St Thomas' website topped the best large church website category in Network Norfolk's awards which were held earlier this month. The website was up against stiff competition from numerous local websites, with Holy Trinity and Proclaimers each highly commended in this category.
The website was built by Jason Baldry, who set up the website last year using Squarespace. Jason, who works in the IT department at UEA found creating the church website a way that he could use his interest in technology and his design skills to assist his church. Jason has dedicated a lot of time and energy to make the website as good as it can be - and his effort has paid off with recognition both locally and nationally.
Jason said, "To win the Norfolk award was a huge honour. The church strives really hard to keep its media fresh and engaging. Central to this is its presentation on the website. We try to keep the website interesting for those in and out of the church with a clean and professional style. Norfolk has a superb array of creative work so to be recognised amongst that was brilliant."
St Thomas were thrilled to also win a trophy at the Premier awards, which was held on November 14 following the annual Christian digital media conference. This year, St Thomas' snapped up the award for most engaging large church website - another trophy for the cabinet in addition to last year's award for most engaging small church website - a testament to the growth of the church as well as to a consistently good website!
When building the website, Jason's intention was to bring the excellent design and structure that he sees in private industry websites and apply some of those principles to a church website.
He said, "We try to keep the content dynamic and make the website central to everything we do whether it be a new sermon series, the weekly news, the calendar to show everything that is going on or the blog from the team travelling the world on mission trips reporting on some hard hitting and important issues. We don't ever want the website to stand still and become stale."
