Canterbury trip for Jan McFarlane’s consecration

The Diocese of Norwich is offering the opportunity to travel by coach to Canterbury on Wednesday, June 29 for the occasion of the Archdeacon of Norwich being consecrated as Bishop of Repton in Canterbury Cathedral.

The Venerable Jan McFarlane, Archdeacon of Norwich will be consecrated as Bishop of Repton, the first female bishop in Derbyshire and the East Midlands, in Canterbury Cathedral on Wednesday, June 29 at 11am.

Following requests, the Diocese of Norwich are considering putting on a coach to Canterbury for the occasion.  In order to judge whether there is enough demand for this, the Diocese would be grateful if all who would like to be part of the trip would register their interest by Sunday, May 22.

The coach would leave Diocesan House, Easton at 6am, arriving at Canterbury Cathedral at 10am. It would leave Canterbury at 4pm, allowing time for some lunch and a look around the city, arriving back at Diocesan House at around 8pm. The cost of the return journey and a ticket would be £25.

Please note that it is expected that the service of consecration at Canterbury Cathedral will be a ticket only event.

If you would be interested in travelling by coach, please let Coralie Nichols, PA to the Bishop of Norwich know as soon as possible at coralie.nichols@dioceseofnorwich.org.  Please be in touch with Coralie even if you have already indicated that you would like a seat.

Jan McFarlane has been Director of Communications in the Diocese of Norwich since 1999. From 2001 to 2009 Jan served as Chaplain to the Bishop of Norwich and has been Archdeacon of Norwich since 2009. She will become the ninth female bishop in the Church of England.

There will be a farewell service for Jan, who will, by then, be consecrated as a bishop at Norwich Cathedral on Wednesday, July 6 at 7pm, to which all are invited.
