New Archdeacon of Norwich excited by role's variety

Rev Canon Karen Hutchinson is looking forward to the variety of her new role as Archdeacon of Norwich and Warden of Readers, which will officially begin this Sunday afternoon at a special service in Norwich Cathedral.

On Sunday, November 13 Rev Canon Karen Hutchinson will be collated and installed as Archdeacon of Norwich.  The open service at Norwich Cathedral will take place at 3.30pm, with refreshments provided afterwards.

Rev Canon Karen Hutchinson is moving to Norwich having been Vicar of The Bourne and Tilford United Benefice in Farnham, Surrey.

Speaking about her new role as Archdeacon of Norwich, Karen said: “I’m looking forward to working with a variety of people.  And this is a job that has a lot of variety in it.  There is the Archdeacon’s role of working with parishes and people.  And the Warden of Readers role gives me a chance to work with lay people in their ministry and that is something I’ve been passionate about where I am.”

Speaking about the move to Norfolk, Karen said: “Norwich is a really beautiful city.  We are looking forward to exploring the churches and the old buildings.  It feels like a really alive city to be in and we look forward to that.”

Asked about what she would appreciate prayer for as she embarks on the role, the Archdeacon Designate said: “I’d really like you to pray for me to continue listening to God because it doesn’t really matter what we do, if we don’t do it in God’s strength it’s a complete waste of time and so to pray that I will stay really rooted in God and excited about serving God as I serve the people of the Norwich Diocese.”
