Events across Norfolk aim to show Christian unity 

A series of ecumenical events have been announced across Norfolk to mark the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

In Norwich, an invitation has been extended to join an Ecumenical Chain of Prayer for Christian Unity on Thursday January 18, from 10am to 4pm in St Luke’s Chapel at Norwich’s Anglican Cathedral.

County Ecumenical Officer, Catherine Howe, said: “The theme for this year is That All May be Free and the cathedrals Ecumenical Canons will be leading prayers for Unity: Pastor Jon Norman (Soul Church) will start off, Rev Julian Pursehouse (Chair of East Anglia Methodist district) will join at lunchtime and Father David Paul (Dean at the RC Cathedral) will end the day.

“Other churches across the city and beyond will lead the prayers in between but please drop in any stage during the day to support your fellow Christians. We would love you to join us.”

Sheringham churches will be gathering at 6.30pm on Sunday January 21 at St Andrew's Methodist Church on Cromer Road in the town for their United service. This will be preceded at 6pm with refreshments.

Dereham churches will arrange a pulpit swap

Churches Together in North Walsham are having a service on January 21 to be hosted by the Methodist Church at 6pm.

Poringland and Framingham Earl Churches Together (P&FECT), which comprises Framingham Earl Methodist; Anglican church of All Saints, Poringland; Cornerstone Church and The Catholic church of Our Lady of the Annunciation are celebrating with a Praise and Prayer evening at Poringland Community Centre on January 19.

The Wells Churches will be holding a United Service on Sunday January 21, 11am at the Catholic Church, The Buttlands, Wells.  The speaker will be the Methodist minister, Rev Cliff Shanganya.  Daily mediations will be led in turn round the five churches each morning at 11am followed by coffee.

On Sunday January 21, Rev Bruno Boldrini will be taking a service in his church (Trinity URC - at 1 Unthank Road, Norwich) on the theme of Christian Unity.

Christians Together in Lowestoft and District are organizing a United Service on Sunday January 21 at the URC Church, London Road North, Lowestoft, at 3pm. 

Churches Together in Brundall will hold their service of Christian Unity Sunday January 21 at 6.30pm at St Laurence Church Brundall.

In Attleborough there will be midday prayer on Thursday 18th, Friday 19th, and Monday 22nd to Thursday 25th inclusive. This will move around the churches: venues still to be finalised. On Sunday 21st January there will be an ecumenical service at St Mary’s at 4pm, followed by light refreshments.

Fakenham & District Churches Together’s proposed programme is as follows:

Saturday 20 January                       17.00 Vespers at Walsingham Orthodox Church

Monday 22 January                         14.00 Prayers led by the Methodist Church at the Parish Church
Tuesday 23 January                        14.00 Prayers led by the Baptist Church at the Citadel
Wednesday 24 January                    10.00 Mass at St. Anthony’s
Thursday 25 January                       9.30 Communion in Parish Church (Patronal Festival).

Churches Together in King’s Lynn will celebrate Christian unity with daily, half hour services hosted by churches from a wide range of denominations in the town as follows:
Thursday 18 January, 12.30-1pm: North Lynn Methodist Church, Losinga Road, PE30 2DH with Rev Andrew Maguire.
Friday 19 January, 12.30-1pm: Salvation Army, Wellesley Street, King’s Lynn, PE30 1QD with Major Barbara Jeffery
Saturday 20 January, 12.30-1pm: The London Road Methodist Church, King’s Lynn, PE30 5PU with Rev Catherine Dixon
Sunday 21 January, 5-6pm: The Church of St John the Evangelist, Blackfriars Road, King’s Lynn, PE30 1NT led by Rev Rebecca Rogers with preacher Andy Moyle.
Monday 22 January, 12.30-1pm: The Church of the Annunciation, London Road, King’s Lynn, PE30 5HQ with Rev Peter Rollings.
Tuesday 23 January, 12.30-1pm: King’s Lynn Christian Fellowship, The King’s Centre, Wellesley St, King’s Lynn, PE30 1QD with Andy Osborne.
Wednesday 24 January, 12.30-1pm: The Gateway Church, 99c High Street, King’s Lynn PE30 3BS with Pastor Andy Moyle.

Thursday, January 25, 12.30-1pm: The London Road Methodist Church, King’s Lynn PE30 5PU with Oladapo Adegoke from the Church of the King’s Glory.
