Hope for Justice and Police Reform Survey

Ahead of the Hope for Justice conference, which has been rescheduled for 13 April 2024, responses are being sought for a survey to explore the potential for police reform in Britain.

The working culture and practices of some of our police forces has come under a lot of scrutiny in recent years and there is increasing pressure for reforms to the criminal justice system to ensure it better reflects the concerns and interests of local communities.

The survey, in preparation for the conference, will cover questions such as: What are your experiences of engaging with the police and law enforcement authorities? Can the police do more to better understand Christian communities and can Church leaders work more collaboratively with the police? And how can the police engage more inclusively with black and Asian communities, in particular?

Dr Ian Watson, County Ecumenical Officer for Churches Together in Norfolk and Waveney (NWCT) says that:

“The survey should take about 3 minutes to answer, and responses will be confidential and anonymous.  I encourage as many people as possible to complete the survey and attend the conference on 13 April.  I say this because when visiting local Churches Together groups across Norfolk and Waveney, it is clear that more work is required in regard to working more collaboratively with Norfolk Constabulary.   Although there are many good examples there remains too many instances of police officers articulating negative attitudes towards, for example, immigrants and some of the most vulnerable in our local communities.”
