Media expert's story of hope after addiction
2010: David Payne
, a media expert whose remarkable recovery from drug addiction paved the way for him to eventually lead an international charity that now brings hope to thousands of people, was the guest speaker at a Norwich
dinner on Friday March 12
Born into a nominal Catholic family, David enjoyed ‘the good life’ as a successful young businessman, until he fell into serious addiction. Friends and family feared for his recovery as his behaviour deteriorated – until David surprisingly found freedom from through faith in Christ after being invited to a dinner organised by the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship
. This began ‘a total turnaround’ in his life.
After working with the Rev Nicky Gumbel, the former London barrister who is famous as the developer of the Alpha Course, David is now director of a media charity called Catholic Faith Exploration that uses high-quality film and video to introduce people of all ages to faith in God. Hundreds of churches in the UK and overseas use his popular materials and David is much in demand as a conference speaker.
David and his Italian wife, Giovanna, have three children.
David shared his unusual story at FGBMFI’s monthly dinner at the Maid’s Head Hotel, in Tombland, Norwich, NR3 1LB, on March 12. All are welcome. The event is at 7 for 7.30pm and the cost is £12.
