Here come the Mcbrides to Norwich church

2010: Majors Ian and Sally McBrideThe Salvation Army’s Norwich Citadel is to welcome new leaders. Majors Ian and Sally McBride will be officially installed in a special service at 10.30am on Sunday 1st August 2010 at the church in St Giles Street.

The McBrides succeed Majors Denis and Olive Lomax, who have taken up appointments at The Salvation Army’s North Scotland headquarters in Aberdeen.
 
After over 23 years each as Salvation Army officers, the appointment as leaders of The Salvation Army at Norwich Citadel will be the Northern Irish couple’s first in Norfolk. They have previously served at three churches in both West London and Ireland and since 2005, they have been leaders at the Cardiff Canton Corps in South Wales.
 
Major Ian, who was born in Lurgan, County Armagh and raised in Salvationist tradition, said: “We are excited at the prospect of living in Norwich, and heading up the leadership team at the Citadel. We know that we are coming to a people who have a vision of what God requires from them, a people who love God and desire to serve Him.”
 
Also raised a Salvationist, Major Sally was involved in many aspects of corps life at here local Salvation Army in Northern Ireland, working with youth, songsters (senior choir) and with the Brownies before going into full-time Christian ministry. She added: “We know that the corps folk have a desire to see the Kingdom of God and The Salvation Army grow.”
 

Before entering training to become Salvation Army officer, Major Ian was a biology laboratory technician at Portadown College, a grammar school in Portadown, County Armagh, while his then wife-to-be worked as a secretary in a large laundry and dry cleaning firm in her hometown of Ballymena, County Antrim.

 

Major Sally concluded: “We simply seek to add to the ministry of the corps that God has entrusted to us in order that His will is done in all of our lives. Ian and I are looking forward to the task ahead of us both at the Citadel and in the local community.”
 
The McBrides will be officially welcomed as Norwich Citadel’s new leaders in a special service on Sunday 1st August 2010 at St Giles Street, NR2 1LL starting at 10.30am. The service will be conducted by Major David Jackson, the Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army across Anglia. For more information call 01603 620 747.
