YMCA helps bring Olympic spirit to Norfolk

CommunityGames350YMCA Norfolk has teamed up with Active Norfolk to bring a series of Community Games to Norfolk in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games this summer.

The ‘Community Games’ is a national programme that aims to bring people of all backgrounds together to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is the government funded Olympic legacy programme for communities and has received the London 2012 ‘Inspire Mark’.

Each ‘Community Games’ will be unique to the community they are hosted by but all events will be characterised by providing opportunities for people to take part in sporting and cultural activities.

In Norfolk the ‘Community Games’ is a joint initiative between YMCA Norfolk and Active Norfolk.

InspireMarkLogoYMCA Norfolk Health and Well-being Development Worker, Jessica Tyson, said:We are looking for interested community groups, associations or churches to partner with to see events happen in local areas across Norwich, Great Yarmouth and King’s Lynn. If you are thinking of putting on an event to celebrate the Olympics why not get in touch with us and make it a ‘Community Games’!

“YMCA Norfolk will be able to support you with the planning and delivery of events, volunteer training, ‘Community Games’ branded advertising and potential access to a small grant to aid your delivery costs. Your event would also be part of a nationally recognised programme and directly linked to London 2012 through the Inspire Mark.”

If you are interested in volunteering to put on a ‘Community Games’ event in your local area please contact Jessica Tyson by email jessicatyson@ymca-norfolk.org.uk or by phone 01603 630049ext129.
