Norfolk praise musicians to herald Olympic Torch

Praise BusLocal Christian musicians are needed to join an open-topped Praise Bus, travelling across the country an hour ahead of the Olympic Flame, for the Norwich to Yarmouth leg of its journey on Thursday 5th July.

A distinctive brightly coloured Praise Bus is travelling the breadth of the country, an hour ahead of the Olympic Torch Relay, playing worship music to onlookers as they line the streets awaiting sight of the Olympic Flame.

The bus is the vision of Tina Bonfield, from Escalls Church in Cornwall who negotiated a highly discounted rate on a double decker bus with drivers from the Bath Bus Company before embarking on the 8,000 mile trip.  The initiative is supported by the ‘More than Gold’ collaborative, which enables and encourages churches to engage with the 2012 Games.

As the Olympic Torch Relay now gets closer to Norfolk the Praise Bus team are appealing for local Christian musicians to get on board and take up the worship baton.

Christine said: “The bus is going well with many people feeling great joy and blessing. One lady, along the route, wrote to say she felt so uplifted by the bus, a feeling that far outlived the torch's passing.

“We now need more short refreshment stops and musicians in Norfolk.”

Musicians from Lynn Christian Fellowship and the Gateway Church in Kings Lynn have volunteered to play as it travels to Norwich on Wednesday 4th July.

“When we heard about the bus on Christian Radio we got in touch to see if we could help in any way,” said church member Clive Bush, who passed on the news and four local musicians offered their services for the momentous journey.

If you would like to volunteer to play on the Praise Bus on Thursday 5th July or if you would like to offer the team a place to take a refreshment break along the route, please contact Tina Bonfield at escallsbus@btinternet.com.
