Norfolk shoebox appeal needs storage premises

SamaritanPurseSwaziland450The Norfolk branch of Operation Christmas Child is seeking premises for its team of volunteers to store the thousands of shoeboxes that the county’s churches, schools and voluntary groups donate each year.

Operation Christmas Child is an annual project run by the Christian international relief charity Samaritan’s Purse.  Used shoe boxes are packed with small toys, educational supplies, sweets and other gifts for young children who could otherwise receive no Christmas present at all.

Last year people in Norfolk sent almost 10,000 boxes to Kosovo while 146,000 were sent from the eastern region and 912,000 from the UK as a whole.

Collating, sorting and packing the donated shoeboxes is a mammoth task and the charity has a venue in Fifers Lane in Norwich to sort the boxes but still needs premises to store the boxes from the end of October until the beginning of December when they will be picked up by lorry.
If you know of suitable premises, or want to get involved in preparing your own shoeboxes, please contact Area Co-ordinator for Norfolk Shirley Barber on 01263 735100 or

Do you appreciate our service and stories?

The Network Norwich & Norfolk website has been published for over 13 years now and we have an established team of professional journalists covering the activities, organisations and churches which make up the county’s Christian community. Our whole purpose is to support that community by daily providing accurate, unbiased stories and features.

To pay for that service, we rely on our partner organisations, advertisers and readers to, in turn, support us financially. We want to keep the website free for everyone to access and continue to be able to pay for writers to produce the content you can enjoy every day.

We would like to ask you to consider supporting our work and suggest you might want to make a small regular donation of just £1 a week and become one of our 100 Friends, or a larger one-off or annual amount.

Because we are part of a registered charity we can reclaim Gift Aid on your donations if you are a tax-payer.
