Jess is Matthew Project marathon fund raiser

Sheringham based Jess Frere-Smith set herself a challenge by taking part in the Norwich Half Marathon in November and raised over £400 for The Matthew Project.

matthewprojmarathonCF400“I chose to raise money for the Matthew Project as they are helping a member of my family who has depression and an addictive personal disorder, and is currently receiving help for his alcohol addiction. The fact that he is able to get on programmes and have support is invaluable, it's a hard time for my family to see him go through it, but charities like the Matthew project are making it easier for him. The fact that he receives help for free is amazing, and I just wanted to give something back, to say thanks and help keep the charity going.” said Jess.

Jess is a swimmer and as she says, is really not built for running. Despite the grim weather, Jess finished the race in 2 hrs 10 mins, a great effort considering she wanted to stop and give up about 4 times due to aching joints, but determination to complete the course took over.

“I did the run because I wanted to motivate others, to show that no matter how hard something seems, if you put your mind to it, you can achieve your goal. Running for the Matthew Project was also important, because I felt I was giving something back, to a charity that has helped the family recently. I wanted to give up a few times, it was one of the hardest things I've put myself through, but it was worth the feeling I got when I persevered and finished the race.”
Sharon Hulbert, media and fundraising manager for The Matthew Project said, “We are really grateful to Jess for going well out of her comfort zone to help raise funds for our charity. We would also like to thank all those who sponsored her helping her raise such a tremendous amount.”
