Diocese tent wins award at Royal Norfolk Show

Visitors have been flocking in their thousands to visit the Diocese of Norwich marquee, which has won an award at this year's Royal Norfolk Show.

The marquee has been named “Second best marquee in Show”, and the Bonds Challenge Cup has been awarded for the most effective and well laid out display by a charitable or voluntary organisation.

The marquee was packed full of activities for children, families and those looking for a moment of peace and reflection.

The theme of the tent is ‘Communities Growing Together’ with various activities and things to see based around the theme. These include:

  • A Sensory Garden
  • A reflective Prayer Garden
  • The Norfolk Wildlife Trust highlighting conservation with activities including making bats from clay
  • A Bug Trail
  • Raised beds growing vegetables, highlighting the work of All Saints' Thornage Church Allotments and other community projects run by churches.
  • Churchyard and Wildlife area
  • Toddler Zone, co-ordinated by the Diocesan PlayVan
  • Cafe / picnic area

Thanks to the Blossom and Yarn Festival, there's also an opportunity to take a selfie with a life-size knitted Bishop Graham!

Wednesday (July 1) was not only the hottest day of the year, but the hottest day in July on record. Temperatures in Norwich reached 31c, which meant the cafe in the marquee was well used supplying water and other drinks to those in need of refreshment.
