Methodists take over Thursford for Songs of Praise
2017: The annual Methodist Songs of Praise, this year organised by the Central Norfolk Circuit, will take place at the Thursford Collection, near Fakenham, at 3.00pm on Sunday April 2.
The event is supported by the Cushing family and their staff at the Collection who donate the premises free of charge and a congregation of a thousand people is expected gather for the event.
Although admission is free, a collection is taken, with all profits given to a nominated charity, which this year will be Age Concern (Norfolk). Staff from Age Concern will be at the event to talk about the challenges of dealing with dementia, and to offer advice if required.
The Circuit has been focusing on becoming 'Dementia Friendly' over the past year, with every church having someone who has received training in dementia awareness.
The guest speaker will be the Adviser to the Bishop of Norwich on Women's Ministry, Canon Heather Butcher. She is a well-known figure in the county, being Norfolk born and bred, and having served churches in the Norwich and Mid Norfolk areas during her ministry.
The emphasis of the afternoon is on the music, with many favourite hymns accompanied by Fakenham Town Band and keyboard wizard, Danny Wakefield, at the console of Thursford's world famous Wurlitzer theatre organ.
Last year, for the first time, the service was offered in British Sign Language for those with hearing difficulties, and this will again be provided by the Rev Anne Richardson.
Tickets are now available by sending a stamped addressed envelope, minimum 22cm x 11cm to:
