The Pleasaunce reopens its doors after two years

2017: The Pleasaunce Christian conference centre at Overstrand on the north Norfolk coast celebrated its re-opening after two years on July 1 with over 200 guests joining in the rededication of its Christian service to the local area.

The Pleasaunce was bought from Lord and Lady Battersea by Christian Endeavour Holiday Centres (CEHC) opening as a Christian holiday home in 1938.

The centre closed in 2015 and was put on the market to be sold. However, with a new board of Trustees it seemed that God had other ideas and the news that The Pleasaunce was going to reopen was announced in February.

After extensive redecoration and upgrade of all the first floor rooms, the new managers – Phillip and Jillian Orme – were ready to welcome the first guests on Friday June 30.

PleasaunceReopeningGroup450On July 1, Mark Thompson – the Chairman of Trustees for CEHC – was delighted to welcome everyone to the Reopening and Celebration Service, and to thank all those involved in helping to get to the point where The Pleasaunce could welcome guests back to enjoy the splendour of the house and gardens with stunning seas views.

Centre manager Phillip Orme, said: “The celebration and dedication service was in two parts.  During the interval, a delicious high tea was served, during which time the guests relaxed in the grounds, reminiscing about times past. They can now also look forward to many more years in the future for visitors to come back to The Pleasaunce to make new friends, join together in fellowship and to enjoy time together in this peaceful and relaxing setting.

“The property has a fascinating history and has in the past welcomed royalty, Prime Ministers and novelists such as Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte. Much of this history is evident for guests to enjoy.”

The Pleasaunce, has 24 rooms, 12 of which are en-suite, with a total of 80 bed spaces. It is now open to guests with special holiday weeks organised, availability for church and other group weekends, family fun weeks, day conferences, and plenty of time to stay on your own and meet others in this wonderful house.
