Students turn to Christ at UEA Christian Union Carols

On Thursday, December 7 over 500 students attended Norwich Cathedral for the University of East Anglia’s Christian Union Christmas Carol Service, with many responding by giving their lives to Christ.

The annual Christmas Carol Service organised by the University of East Anglia’s Christian Union (UEA CU), held at Norwich Cathedral, took place on the evening of Thursday, December 7 with a congregation of over 500 people.

The Rev Canon Aidan Platten, Precentor for Norwich Cathedral, gave a warm welcome to the gathering. The UEA Choir performed and various members of the Christian Union gave readings.  Former Radio and TV presenter Adrian Holloway, who now is a speaker for Newfrontiers churches gave the Christmas message over the course of the service.

It was the third time that Adrian has spoken at the event. On his blog Adrian Holloway has written about the event, saying: “65 people who told us they were not part of any church, nor part of the Christian Union said they prayed the salvation response prayer in Norwich Cathedral tonight at the University of East Anglia CU Carol Service.

"There were an additional 16 who are also not church, nor CU people, who didn’t pray the prayer, but said they’d like to know more about Christianity. I’m told we had around 550 people attend, at an event organized by a CU of about 70 people. Once again I am so grateful to God to be able to partner in the gospel with such amazing folks.”

Following the service mince pies and mulled wine were served at King’s Community Church, where students had chance to chat, have fun with a Christmas photo booth, hear more from the UEA Choir and browse the stalls of Just Love Norwich, the UEA Oxfam Society and the CU, which was promoting its upcoming events week called STORY.

Jenny Prime, Secretary of the UEA CU said: “We all felt the carol service went really well! It was fantastic to see so many people come and sing carols and listen to why the Christmas message is so important! We received lots of positive feedback from people too.”
