Build a church and ring a bell at the Royal Norfolk Show

The Diocese of Norwich will once again be at the Royal Norfolk Show on Wednesday and Thursday June 27 and 28 to celebrate and highlight the church’s role in local communities across the county.

The Norfolk Show is the largest 2-day agricultural show in the country with over 80,000 people expected to visit. The theme of the Diocese of Norwich marquee will be ‘We care’, which links in with one of the show’s themes - ‘Well-being’.

Throughout the large marquee will be a wide range of activities, areas to explore and exhibits, including activities for children and young people to get stuck into; the opportunity to try bell ringing for the first time; and a reflective garden experience and churchyard wildlife area.

Speaking about their vision for the stand, Gordon Darley, Director of Marketing & Communications for the Diocese of Norwich, said:

“The Show is an amazing opportunity to highlight what the local church is doing across Norfolk and Waveney as well as promoting Christians working together through many different charities.  Through a vibrant, colourful and engaging presence we want to give just a taste of the love God has for all.”

The marquee will also have a large café area for those wanting refreshment or a place to stop and relax as well as featuring a large soft play area for toddlers and parents. School choirs and music groups will be performing on the stage during both days.  Many of the Diocese’ partner organisations will also be running interactive areas such as the Church Urban Fund who will be discussing poverty and homelessness.

Visitors will also be able to take part in constructing a big church building using Lego bricks. This project aims to highlight the care and dedication of so many volunteers who look after their local church building, brick by brick, to ensure it’s open and available for the local community and visitors each day.

Other local Christian charities and organisations will be exhibiting with the Diocese to showcase the work they do, including Scripture Union, Christian Aid, Norfolk Community Chaplaincy, Norfolk YMCA, Norwich Cathedral, Norfolk Postal Bible School, Mothers’ Union, PlayVan, Horstead Centre and Spire Property Consultants.

If anyone has any spare Lego they could donate towards the big build, please drop it off at Diocesan House, 109 Dereham Road, Easton, Norwich, NR9 5ES.
