Sheringham church wins carnival first with Creation

2108: Lighthouse Community Church won first prize in their class (social and charity groups) at Sheringham Carnival on Wednesday as they depicted Creation, complete with tree, smiling apple and snake. Tony Rothe reports.

The tree was constructed by Josh Mutton and was surrounded by adults and children depicting many aspects of creation, such as animals, flowers, the sea, moon and rain. Even a snowman took part. The various animals were all members of the Lighthouse kids’ groups, including Sunday Breakout, and Friday’s “Schools Out” (term time only). Becky Gabriel co-ordinated everyone’s efforts.

The weather was glorious, and the streets of Sheringham were packed as the procession wound through the town. Sheringham Salvation Army also took part in the parade.

Lighthouse carnival2 2018 750A“We were not really expecting to win a prize” said one of the giraffes, “although we did win our section last year as well - we simply did this for fun, and to show we are part of the community”

Lighthouse Community Church’s involvement with Sheringham Carnival is part of a program of events aimed at continuing the church’s involvement in the community. The next major event will be the Naafi Café for the town’s 1940’s weekend on September 15 which should be bigger and even better than last year.
