YMCA Norfolk needs a Lead Chef in Norwich

YMCAIconPurple300YMCA Norfolk is looking for an experienced Lead Chef for its facilities, including the Stepping Stones Cafe, in Norwich.

£9.14 per hour – Norwich – Permanent contract – 37.5 hours per week

The Role:

The successful candidate will be confident in the preparation and cooking of food for the general public and for YMCA Norfolk service users.

Other responsibilities of the Lead Chef include:

  • Undertaking menu choices within agreed budget.
  • Assisting with ordering stock.
  • Supervising other Catering Staff.
  • Cash handling.
  • Training and progressing Apprentices and Volunteers.
  • Receiving goods and assisting in stock rotation.
  • Kitchen cleaning duties as required.
  • Ensure all foods are stored according to Environmental Health Standards.
  • Ensure all maintenance of equipment is to standard.

Stepping Stones Café is a modern, exciting café and social enterprise in the heart of Norwich. They serve more than just great food and coffee, it also serves as a training and skills social enterprise set up to meet the needs of the young people in YMCA Norfolk’s supported housing services.

What you’ll need to succeed:

The Lead Chef will ensure that at all times the catering function is carried out to the level of the YMCA Norfolk agreed standards and is undertaken in accordance with Health and Safety legislation, Environmental Health Guidelines and Food Hygiene requirements.You will need previous experience of cooking for large numbers, working to tight schedules and supervising other staff. We would like the successful candidate to have a NVQ Level 2 in Catering or Food Preparation and Cooking. The Lead Chef should also have the ability to uphold and implement YMCA Norfolk’s values and ethos and the ability to follow standardised work processes accurately.They will contribute to the provision of high quality support to homeless single people within a safe, supportive and secure environment.
