Vineyard win Norfolk Christian league tournament

The curtain-raising tournament for the new Norfolk Christian Football League season took place last weekend (September 14) with a seven-team competition won by Gateway Vineyard.

League chairman, Jim Green, said: “The 11-a-side short game tournament gathered many of our adult teams for fitness, friendship and football and we think it is a great way to start the new season.”

Teams taking part were Gateway Vineyard, Silver Road Baptist, who were runners-up, Heigham Park Rangers, Soul Church, Stalham Baptist, Eaton Eagles and Sprowston Radicals.

“The tournament was won by Gateway Vineyard ahead of Silver Road, which would seem to suggest an increasingly competitive league,” said Jim.

Two new teams have joined the league since last season, UEA and Lighthouse from Sheringham, run by two former players now returned from university.

Making up the league are league winners Norwich Central Baptist Church and Norwich St John’s

“The question again seems to be, is there a team who can seriously challenge NCBC in their quest for an unprecedented fourth league and cup double in a row,” said Jim. “We look forward to seeing where another season of faith and football takes us.”

The league proper starts this weekend with a full-round of fixtures.
