Marriage prep day beneficial to civil ceremonies too

Latest figures show that, for the first time ever, less than one quarter (24%) of all marriages are religious ceremonies.  An increasing number of couples are choosing to celebrate their big day with a ceremony in a luxury barn, country house or local hotel.  With church weddings on a steady decline, does the church have to accept a much smaller role in marriage in the future?
Not so thinks Duncan MacInnes, who, with his wife Janice, leads a marriage preparation ministry called “Marriage Prep in-a-Day.”  Duncan and Janice present a contemporary and inspiring day for engaged couples in association with churches in Norfolk, Cambridge, Ely, London, Kent and Hertfordshire.  The course addresses the latest challenges for millennial and generation Z couples who intend to tie the knot.
Marriage Prep in-a-Day is a fast-paced event presented live by Duncan and Janice interspersed with cool video and infused with humour.  Running from 9am to 4pm. its intention is to prepare couples for marriage as comprehensively as possible.

“Fully retaining the attention of couples is vital for the learning process so content variety, personal examples of marriage and humour are all essential elements that help in this respect. We have worked, and continue to work hard, to provide a day of excellence and we believe this is reflected in the consistently outstanding feedback results from couples attending.”
“We are very encouraged that an increasing number of couples marrying in a civil venue are attending our day.  Christian couples are joined on the course by those of other faiths or no faith and atheist couples.  All enjoy an inspiring and hugely beneficial day in church” says Janice.
Couples are referred by churches and others find a suitable date and venue on Marriage Prep in-a-Day’s website via an internet search.  At only £25 per couple, those attending regard it as outstanding value and a not for profit rarity in the wedding industry!  Duncan said, “We are attempting to set an easily replicable concept of excellence and our hope is that contemporary one day Marriage Prep will be an option in every city in the UK within ten years, with church at the centre.”

The Network Norwich & Norfolk website has been published for over 13 years now and we have an established team of professional journalists covering the activities, organisations and churches which make up the county’s Christian community. Our whole purpose is to support that community by daily providing accurate, unbiased stories and features.

To pay for that service, we rely on our partner organisations, advertisers and readers to, in turn, support us financially. We want to keep the website free for everyone to access and continue to be able to pay for writers to produce the content you can enjoy every day.

We would like to ask you to consider supporting our work and suggest you might want to make a small regular donation of just £1 a week and become one of our 100 Friends, or a larger one-off or annual amount.
